Angie Cervantes Receives Medal at CIF State Wrestling

With hundreds of girls wrestling at the CIF State tournament last weekend Angie Cervantes did well and was nominated and received 1 of only 10 Pursuing Victory with Honor medals given out. Great competitor with great Character. Way to represent.

Walnut Wrestlers Qualify for CIF Masters

Cynthia Esquivel won her match in a thrilling overtime against the #2 seed. Angie Cervantes dominated the competition with 5 pins and joined Esquivel by qualifying for the CIF Masters tournament along with 6 more Walnut Girls Wrestlers. Two boys also qualified for masters, Ryan Kim (3rd) Joshua Salas (7th).

Walnut Girls Wrestling Wins League, again

The Walnut Girls Wrestling team won the Hacienda League Championship for the fifth time this past weekend. Walnut’s Justine Barredo Wins Nationals

Walnut wrestlers Justine Barredo and Billy Von Goeben traveled to High School Nationals and came away with excellent results. Von Goeben made it to the quarterfinals and finished 12th in his division. Barredo did even better by winning her division.

SGVT Girls Wrestling Coach of the Year

Congratulations to our own Coach¬†Cecil Sebastian, who was chosen by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune newspaper as the Girls Wrestling Coach of the Year. Also chosen on the Girls First team were¬†Justine Barredo, Nateli Maston and Mariah Dow. Angie Cervantes and Kory Philips made the second team. Read all about in the SGVT’s article HERE.

Walnut Wrestling State Medalists

Walnut wrestlers Justine Barredo and William Von Goeben both won medals at the State finals. Barredo finished in second place in the 106 lb division while Von Goeben finished 6th in the heavyweight division.
